Zaha Hadid Foundation and American University of Beirut announce new Zaha Hadid Scholars

Zaha Hadid Foundation and The School of Architecture and Design (SoAD) have selected the annual recipients of the prestigious Zaha Hadid Scholars Program for its second year: architecture students Angie Zaatari and Sara Ammar.

The scholarship program, funded by the Zaha Hadid Foundation, honors the legacy of renowned architect and AUB alumna, Zaha Hadid. Launched in September 2025, the Zaha Hadid Scholars Program fully funds the five-year undergraduate education for two architecture students annually at AUB’s Maroun Semaan Faculty of Engineering and Architecture (MSFEA). Students are chosen based on both need and merit. “We’re so pleased and honored to be able to advance Zaha’s commitment to learning and AUB by supporting such outstanding students on their educational path,” said Aric Chen, Director of the Zaha Hadid Foundation. “Sara and Angie emerged from an impressive group of applicants, and we wish all of them the greatest success and look forward to continuing our relationship with them and AUB.”

The recipients expressed their gratitude for the opportunity. Angie Zaatari reflected on her accomplishment: “When I first heard that I had been selected for the Zaha Hadid Scholarship, it felt both exciting and surreal. Zaha Hadid has always been an inspiration to me, which makes the opportunity to carry her name with me throughout my studies at AUB something I am truly grateful for. I look forward to carrying her legacy with me throughout my journey in architecture, allowing her vision to remain a guiding source of inspiration.”

Similarly, Sara Ammar commented: “I feel washed with gratitude and a little overwhelmed in the best way. Receiving this scholarship felt like a beautiful reminder that the dreams I've poured my heart into are becoming a reality. I'm super excited to begin this journey at AUB and make the most out of it!”

The Zaha Hadid Scholars Program reflects the shared commitment of the Zaha Hadid Foundation and AUB to supporting talented students and nurturing the next generation of architects.
